Alumni from all over the city came out to InterVarsity’s New York City Urban Project (NYCUP) Open House to experience the work of college students serving and learning through different urban communities in New York. Through biblical training, guided theological reflection, exposure to NYC and opportunities to serve the neighborhood, students delve into the subjects of God’s justice, racial reconciliation, and whole life discipleship.
For the evening, local students from the New Song Community Center put on a hip-hop and music performance (them boys got flow!) while guests put down a lot of good soul food and ice tea. Afterwards, Tiffany Houck-Loomis, the NYCUP Director, showcased what this year’s students had experienced: everything from summer classes for kids in the community to using business school skills to help create a strategy for the Bowery Mission expansion. It was a great time, and we thank all the alumni who made it out.
