Almost 200 InterVarsity alumni, students, and friends attended the Third Annual Alumni Dinner on April 28, 2005 in downtown Manhattan to celebrate and raise support for the InterVarsity ministry of New York City.
“It was great to see so many people show up! I was happy to meet alumni from many different schools in New York and across the country,” noted one volunteer. Another recent alumni add, “It really encourages me to see people care about college ministries even after they’ve graduated.” The turnout was indeed exceptional as people reunited with old friends, made new ones, and heard testimonies of God’s work on college campuses nationwide.
We were blessed by Rev. Alfonso Wyatt’s inspirational talk that challenged us—alumni and students alike—to continue working for the Kingdom no matter where our walk may take us. “When people ask me what I do, I tell them I work on a lifeboat,” said Wyatt. He reminded us that everyday we are given a choice: to either look the other way or actively partner with God to engage the world. Whether we're students or alumni, it's easy to forget that this choice is a daily one, and not a choice that we make just once.
InterVarsity honored Ed Morgan, President of The Christian Herald and Rutgers University alumnus, with the Dr. Mildred Clarke Distinguished Alumni award for his years of service and dedication to the community. Albert Wu received the Excellence in Student Leadership award for his service to the Columbia InterVarsity chapter.
This year’s fundraiser was a huge success. We’d like to thank all those who so graciously contributed to InterVarsity’s work in the city, as well as all those who helped to make this event possible.
