Does your company provide matching gifts to the non-profits you support?

When someone promises to double an investment immediately, wise investors become suspicious. However, friends like you who invest in InterVarsity's ministry actually can double your giving through corporate matching. Here’s how…….

Trends in corporate giving show that companies are more and more involving the employee in their giving decision. For example, Alliant Energy allots 26% of their total giving budget to be determined by their employees philanthropic giving. One form of this type of giving comes through a “matching program” where often a company will match dollar for dollar what an employee gives to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

If you currently give to InterVarsity, would you be willing to ask your company about their matching program? You could potentially double your giving power resulting in a greater impact on the lives of students we serve.

How you might go about inquiring about your company's matching program:

1)   Ask your HR or Corporate Philanthropy/Foundation department if your company offers a “matching program” to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

2)     If so, request a matching gift form from your company or inquire on the specific process your company has established.

3)     Fill out the form and send it to InterVarsity along with your annual gift to InterVarsity. If you give monthly, you may consider providing an InterVarsity year end statement to your company.

4)   InterVarsity then fills out the remaining portion of the form which will indicate that the gift from you (the employee) has been received. IV then returns the completed and signed form along with a 501(c)(3) determination letter to your company. The company in turn should provide a direct response and matching gift to InterVarsity.
